3T Bikes – Brand History and What Makes Them Different
3T began in Italy as a manufacturer of bicycle components. Over time, the company applied its expertise to developing complete bikes. A major milestone came in 2016 with the introduction of the Exploro, one of the first gravel bikes designed with a strong focus on aerodynamics. In 2017, 3T launched the Strada road bike, featuring several unconventional design choices for its time.
3T's approach is to balance aerodynamics, tyre clearance and ride characteristics according to each bike's intended purpose. As a result, not all 3T gravel bikes are alike. Some prioritise speed on tarmac and gravel, while others are designed for more demanding terrain, wider tyres or long-distance adventures. Distinctive frame shapes and bold colours have also become recognisable features of 3T design.
3T Bike Production – WPNT, Italia and Italia X Explained
3T offers bikes across three production and specification lines: WPNT, Italia and Italia X. Although they share the same design philosophy, they differ in where their carbon frames are manufactured, the technologies used, their finishes and component specifications.
- 3T WPNT. Carbon frames in this range are manufactured in Asia, while painting and final bike assembly take place in Italy. WPNT models offer 3T design and riding characteristics at a more accessible price.
- 3T Italia. Frames are manufactured at 3T's factory in Presezzo, Italy, using Filament Winding and RTM (Resin Transfer Moulding) technologies. Carbon fibres are precisely positioned using specialised machinery before resin is injected into the mould. This process allows close control over frame construction and manufacturing quality. The bikes are also painted and assembled in Italy.
- 3T Italia X. The premium version of the Italia range, distinguished by its exposed carbon finish and high-end component specifications. Frames are manufactured in Italy using the same advanced carbon manufacturing technologies.
When comparing WPNT, Italia and Italia X, the place of manufacture is not the only consideration. WPNT is the more accessible option, while Italia and Italia X feature Italian-made frames, specialised production technologies and distinctive finishes. However, a bike's actual ride characteristics also depend on its geometry, tyres, wheels and other components.
Main 3T Bike Models and Their Differences
Carbon gravel bikes make up the largest part of the 3T range, although the brand also offers road and electric models. The key differences lie in the surfaces, riding speeds and routes each bike is designed for.
3T Gravel Bikes – Primo, RaceMax, Ultra and Extrema
- 3T Primo and Primo 2. Versatile gravel bikes designed for both paved roads and gravel tracks. A good choice for riders looking for a sporty bike suitable for a variety of routes.
- 3T RaceMax and RaceMax 2. Speed-focused gravel bikes with an emphasis on aerodynamics and efficient riding. They are particularly suited to fast mixed-surface routes and gravel racing. The RaceMax 2 Italia belongs to the Italian-made range.
- 3T Ultra and Ultra 2. Models designed with greater emphasis on mixed-terrain capability, control and comfort over longer distances. The Ultra 2 Italia is also suited to more challenging roads and bikepacking adventures.
- 3T Extrema Italia. Designed for long and demanding gravel routes. Clearance for wider tyres and purpose-built geometry help the bike handle uneven terrain, making the Extrema particularly appealing to adventurous long-distance riders.
3T Strada – Road Bikes
Introduced in 2017, the Strada stood out for its aerodynamic frame design, disc brakes and unusually wide tyres for a road bike at the time. These features reflected 3T's belief that speed depends not only on frame aerodynamics but also on how a bike performs on real road surfaces.

3T Electric Bikes
3T electric bikes retain the sporty character of their non-assisted counterparts while adding pedal assistance. The manufacturer uses compact Mahle systems with a motor integrated into the rear hub and a battery housed inside the frame. This arrangement helps maintain a clean, understated appearance.
- 3T Ultra Boost / e-Ultra. A versatile electric gravel bike focused on comfort, mixed-surface riding and longer outings.
- 3T RaceMax Boost / e-RaceMax. A sportier electric gravel model that retains the RaceMax focus on speed and aerodynamics.
- 3T e-Extrema Italia. An electric model designed for more demanding gravel routes. Clearance for wider tyres and the Mahle X20 system provide additional assistance on climbs.
The range of an electric bike depends on its battery, selected assistance level, terrain and riding conditions. It is therefore worth checking the specifications of each individual model.
3T Bike Prices and How to Choose
3T focuses primarily on carbon bikes, positioning much of its range in the premium segment. Prices depend on the model, frame production line, drivetrain, wheels and other components. Italia and Italia X models generally cost more than WPNT versions, although specifications can vary considerably even within the same series.
When choosing a 3T bike, start by considering where you ride most often: fast gravel roads, mixed surfaces, more challenging routes or paved roads. This will help you compare suitable models, specifications and sizes.
