absoluteBLACK is a premium bicycle chainring manufacturer, well known for both oval and round chainring solutions for road, gravel and MTB bikes. These chainrings are often chosen to improve pedalling efficiency, reduce the risk of chain drop, and optimise overall drivetrain performance.

Oval chainrings have a changing “effective size” throughout the pedal stroke, helping reduce so-called “dead spots” (when the pedal at the top/bottom of the stroke transfers less power). This can make pedalling feel smoother and help maintain traction more easily on climbs or rough terrain.

Yes. Most absoluteBLACK chainrings are designed for 1x drivetrains and often use a narrow-wide tooth profile to keep the chain securely in place. This is especially useful for MTB and gravel riding on uneven surfaces.

absoluteBLACK makes chainrings for various mounting standards (e.g. BCD and direct mount), so compatibility depends on the specific model. The most common options cover Shimano, SRAM and other popular cranksets, as well as 9/10/11/12-speed drivetrains. Always check the exact model specification before purchasing.

When choosing an absoluteBLACK chainring, the key things to consider are: 1. Whether you want an oval or a round chainring 2. The tooth count you need (based on speed goals / terrain) 3. The mounting standard (BCD or direct mount) 4. Compatibility with your drivetrain speed and crankset This helps you select a chainring that matches your bike setup and riding style.
