Who are 16-inch bikes for?

This size is ideal for young riders aged between 3.5 and 6 years with a height of about 105–120 cm. A 16-inch bike offers an optimal balance of size and control – it’s big and stable enough for a child to feel safe on longer rides, but not so large as to make it difficult to handle or pedal uphill.

It’s worth noting that many 16-inch models come with training wheels, which you can keep on during the transition period and remove once your child gains more confidence.

For Velonova customers, we offer a choice of three popular models. Specialized Riprock Coaster is perfect for everyday use on asphalt and light off-road. If you’re looking for an especially lightweight bike, choose the Early Rider Belter with a belt drive – it requires minimal maintenance and lets the child enjoy a clean ride. And the Early Rider Seeker model, with wider tyres and a sturdy frame, is ideal for those who love adventures in nature.

Usually – no. These bikes do not have gears, making it easier for young riders to focus on riding, balance and speed. Gears appear only in larger bike models.

Two main indicators signal the transition: the child’s height and knee bend. If the child has reached 110 cm and, while sitting on the 14-inch bike, their knees bend too much (almost touching the handlebar), it’s a sign the model has become too small.

A higher-quality model will be lighter, which is especially important for a child developing their skills. A lighter bike ensures safer riding, makes it easier to pedal uphill and gives better control. In addition, a higher-end bike usually lasts longer and can be passed on to younger family members.
